Waller County Forestry Mulching: Texas Land Clearing, Pasture Underbrush and Site Prep Services
Waller County is where the machines sleep, so forestry mulching to clear land here starts with the shortest haul in Texas and no transport line on the invoice. The yard is in Hockley off Highway 290. Pasture gone to post oak sprouts and yaupon on sand is the job, and the big machine clears 4 to 8 acres of it a day at $4,000. I've cleared pasture from Pattison to Hempstead this way since 2018. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos of your place. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.
COUNTY FIELD GUIDE
Forestry Mulching to Clear Land in Waller County: What We Mulch on Pasture
Waller County has its own mix of post oak, yaupon, pine-oak transition, tallow in bottoms. We walk the plan through access, soil, and drainage. If a mapped floodplain or waterway is involved, we check the required approvals before dirt moves.
Post oak sprouts, yaupon, a little loblolly on the ridges, and Chinese tallow in the creek bottoms, which is every shrub, bush and vine that moves onto a pasture once the cattle leave. This is the pine-oak transition, where East Texas timber gives out and the prairie starts. Texas land clearing and brush removal comes in several forms, including forestry mulching, and on sand this is the one that leaves your topsoil where it was. The drum teeth take a post oak sprout up to 8 inches in a pass, and post oak is hard enough that the teeth dull a day sooner than on tallow; over 8 inches the clearing goes to the big machine. Selective clearing is the usual order on horse ground: undergrowth out, the shade oaks left standing. No mesquite here and no acres of cedar like the Hill Country west of us. Tape the oaks that stay.
The growth decides what can be mulched and what needs more than one pass.
Wet ground and access change the number before work starts.

sandy to loam; our equipment yard is in Hockley, lowest transport cost. A clean lot is no use if water gets trapped against the next building pad. Tell us if the ground stays wet after a rain.
Acreage and Pasture Brush Clearing Around Hempstead, Waller and Hockley

Most acreage calls here are for 3-5 acres of pasture along FM 2920, FM 362 and FM 1488, and plenty are for 10 to 20. A rancher wants grass back under the oaks, a landowner wants fence lines opened 8 feet on both sides of the wire, a land developer wants a corridor cut for the survey crew on a Highway 290 tract. Land clearing might mean a dozer to you. On Waller sand it means a drum, because a dozer peels the thin topsoil and leaves you a blow-out that will not hold grass for two years. The skid steer clears 1 to 3 acres a day at $3,000; the dedicated high-horsepower mulcher clears 4 to 8 at $4,000, and inside this county there is no transport charge on either. The Hockley fence line in my Field Sketches ran 2,400 feet of yaupon and post oak sprouts cut to an 8-foot path: one day, $3,000, and I sketched it from the tailgate. Timber folks call it vegetation management. In Texas it is clearing brush and getting usable pasture back.
Texas Land Clearing on Homestead Lots and Backyards

A half-acre lot in Hempstead or Prairie View is one day and one machine, $3,000. That is the most common small clearing we do in this county, for a property owner who bought the overgrown lot next to his or a business owner who needs a pad on Highway 290 completely cleared before the surveyor. Most Waller County lots are bigger than that, and a 2-acre homesite on FM 1736 is still one day on the big machine. We clear brush to the fence, including brush along the county road ditch, and leave a chip layer two to four inches thick. Land clearing services out here rarely hit a city rule, but TCEQ compliance and the county burn ban still make a dozer crew that would create burn piles a bad bet most of the summer. On our jobs in Hockley the owner usually walks the lot that evening, when the low sun shows every crown we flagged.
Clearing and Mulching Cost in Waller County, TX
Numbers first. The lot decides the final price.
$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or by the day: $3,000 for the skid steer and $4,000 for the big machine, with no transport line inside the county. Dense yaupon thickets add a day. Wet ground is rare on sand, but the tallow bottoms along Spring Creek and the Brazos add one in spring. Minimum trip is $1,200 to $1,500. Texas land clearing with a dozer and haul-off starts at $4,000 an acre and adds $600 to $1,200 a load, which is why brush clearing by mulching wins on nearly every pasture here. Ten acres of mixed pasture is usually two days on the big machine, about $8,000 all in. Stumps are a separate line, $150 to $400 each by diameter; excavation services and site preparation for a pad or a stock pond are separate too, and I do not pour concrete or install septic. Professional forestry mulching services should hand you a sketch and an invoice, and ours are on the page when we finish. The on-site estimate is free and in this county it is a short drive. Call (713) 587-6978 with the acreage and the gate location and I will give you days and dollars for the clearing.

Stumps, Sprouts and Mowing After We Clear Sandy Loam

Leave the chips down through the first hay season. On sand the layer is a natural erosion barrier; without it the first Texas thunderstorm cuts a gully down every tire track, and sand that leaves does not come back. People call the chips eco-friendly. I call them the only thing between your pasture and the ditch. Mow the yaupon and post oak sprouts when they reach knee high, twice the first summer, because yaupon will overgrow a cleared pasture in two seasons if nobody cuts it, and the appraisal district wants to see the land in use for the ag exemption. Stump removal is separate from clearing: we grind to the dirt, but a post oak crown over 8 inches stays under the chips, and stump grinding runs $150 to $400 each before a slab. For site prep, the builder rakes the chips off the pad footprint and crowns the sand. I do not talk about environmental sustainability. I talk about pasture that holds a horse the year after the land clearing is done.
Where We Work From the Hockley Yard: Clearing Service Area in Waller County
Our equipment yard is in Hockley. Send the address and Janine will confirm the route.
Hempstead, Waller, Hockley, Prairie View, Brookshire and Pattison, plus every county road from Highway 290 down to I-10. Hockley is the yard, so this county gets the earliest start and the shortest service call we run, and the terrain is sand and loam that carries a machine in any month. Texas has 254 counties and we clear in seven of them around Houston; this is the one where the clearing costs the least because the machines are already here. Waller County pulled 339 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, so most of our work here is pasture, not lots. Land clearing in Waller County means post oak and yaupon; tree removal of a single big oak over a barn is a different trade, and I know people who do it. Land development on the Harris line at Bridgeland books us by the week and the clearing runs all winter. Tell Janine which farm road you are on.

Waller County Questions on Mulching, Stump Grinding and Excavation Services
If your question is about wet ground, Janine will ask me.
How much does clearing cost per acre in Waller County?
$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or $3,000 a day for the skid steer and $4,000 for the big machine, with no transport charge inside the county. A 2,400-foot fence line was one day, $3,000. Ten acres of mixed pasture is about $8,000 over two days, and that number is the number on the invoice.
Will grass grow after clearing with a mulching head?
Yes, through the chips, usually by the second month in a wet Texas spring, and on sand the layer is what keeps the seed from washing. Bahia and coastal bermuda both come back through two inches of chips. Do not rake it off; rake it and the first storm takes your topsoil down the fence line.
Does mulching remove stumps?
No. The head cuts trees and brush to the dirt and leaves the root crown under the chips. Yaupon crowns rot in a season; post oak crowns over 6 inches do not, so you leave them, mow around them, or have them ground out at $150 to $400 each before a slab. I tell you which before the clearing starts.
Is mulching better than traditional land clearing with a dozer?
On Waller County pasture, yes, nearly every time. Forestry mulchers leave the topsoil and the layer; a dozer scrapes the thin sand topsoil into a pile you then pay to burn or haul, and the pasture takes two years to recover. Dozer clearing wins only for a same-day pad grade or Texas timber over 12 inches.
How do I get a number for clearing my place?
Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos and the address. Janine answers every form and call and has a number back by tomorrow. Last spring on a lot off FM 362 near Waller the owner sent photos at noon and we were clearing by Wednesday. Forest management on a big Texas tract gets a walk first; a lot gets a number first.
