Professional Land Clearing in Fort Bend County, TX: Richmond, Rosenberg and Fulshear Lots, Pads and Pond Sites
Fort Bend County is flat, low and black. The clay under Richmond and Rosenberg was prairie a hundred years ago, and left alone it goes back to Chinese tallow in five years and mesquite in ten. Most lots here are under an acre and need fill after the brush is gone. I've cleared lots from Fulshear to Needville since 2018. The skid steer mulcher runs $3,000 a day with transport and takes a half-acre of tallow in one day. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.

Professional Land Clearing Services in Fort Bend County, TX: Residential Land Clearing, Site Prep and Dirt Work Services
Services planned around Fort Bend County soil, brush, and access.
New-build lots are the work in Fort Bend County. A land clearing service removes the tallow, the huisache and the old fence rows so the builder's surveyor can see his pins. Our crews run five kinds of land clearing projects in Richmond, TX and the surrounding areas:
- Forestry mulching and brush clearing, $3,000 a day on the skid steer.
- Lot clearing and site clearing for new homes, with the mulch left as a mat or pushed off for fill.
- Tree clearing and tree removal, mesquite included; mesquite roots run deep and come up again if you leave the crown.
- Stump grinding, $150 to $400 per stump by diameter.
- Dirt work services: grading, pad prep, excavation for a stock pond.
Residential and commercial land clearing both get a pencil sketch first, and the sketch and the invoice are on the page when we finish. I do not pour concrete, install septic or demolish houses. I know people who do.

Fulshear pulled 3,264 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, more than any other city around Houston, and Fort Bend County as a whole pulled 9,638. That is residential land clearing on small residential lots inside Cross Creek Ranch and Harvest Green, and on 1 to 3 acre tracts west of the Grand Parkway. The Katy half-acre in my Field Sketches sits on the Fort Bend side off FM 1463: tallow and yaupon for a custom build, one day, one machine, $3,000, and I sketched it before we rolled. Because this ground sits low, we leave the mulch and let the builder bring select fill so the pad finishes 18 inches above the street crown. By the end of day one you can see from the gate to the back pins.
Forestry Mulching Services and Brush Clearing in Fort Bend County: Tallow Turned to Mulch

Forestry mulching handles nine of ten lots here because nothing in Fort Bend grows past 8 inches before somebody buys the land. The head grinds trees and brush into a mat two to four inches deep and leaves it to hold the clay. No burn piles, which saves you a fight with TCEQ outdoor burning rules and the county burn ban. Our mulching services take undergrowth under live oaks, huisache thickets, and the tallow that comes up along every ditch. Clearing brush along a fence row or cutting a corridor for a drive is a half day. Underbrushing an oak motte, removing vegetation below the canopy and keeping the trees, is one day on the skid steer. Houston has two seasons: wet, and about to be. On blackland clay that means the skid steer on wide tracks floats where a dozer sinks to the belly pan. It is how a homeowner can reclaim overgrown land without hauling anything away.
Land Clearing Cost in Fort Bend County, the Same Price Sheet We Use in Conroe and Montgomery County
Numbers first. The lot decides the final price.
Clearing land in Fort Bend County runs $1,500 to $2,000 an acre for prairie grass and light brush, $2,500 to $3,500 for tallow thickets and mesquite, and $4,000 and up for the rare dense timber along the Brazos with haul-off. Site conditions here mean one thing: how wet the clay is on the day we come.
- Skid steer mulcher: $3,000 a day, transport included, anything under 8 inches.
- Big mulcher: $4,000 a day plus transport, 11 feet wide.
- Stump grinding: $150 to $400 per stump.
- Haul-off: $600 to $1,200 a load. Mulching means none.
- Minimum trip: $1,200 to $1,500, one machine, one short day.
Wet ground adds a day; blackland clay holds water from November into March because it swells shut when soaked. Tallow thickets add a day. On our jobs in Rosenberg the typical new-build lot lands between $3,000 and $4,500 cleared and rough graded. Call (713) 587-6978 with the address and I will tell you which machine and how many days.

Expert Land Clearing on Fort Bend County Ground: Blackland Clay, Tallow, Mesquite and Huisache
Fort Bend County has its own mix of chinese tallow, mesquite toward the south, coastal prairie grasses, huisache. We walk the plan through access, soil, and drainage. If a mapped floodplain or waterway is involved, we check the required approvals before dirt moves.
Blackland clay is the ground from Sugar Land to Needville, and it is the stickiest dirt in seven counties in Texas. It shrinks in August and swells in January, which is why the pad goes in on fill. The vegetation is coastal prairie going back to brush: Chinese tallow first, then huisache and mesquite toward the south end of the county, with live oak mottes and pecan along the Brazos and Oyster Creek. Mesquite is the one plant here that beats the tallow for stubbornness; its taproot goes 15 feet down in dry years. Pine and hardwood are rare here; what we mulch is thorn and tallow, and the wood breaks down inside a season. Prairie lots overgrow in three years once the hay cutting stops. We remove unwanted vegetation and leave the mat against erosion until the builder grades. Walk your lot after a rain and mark where the water stands. That is where the extra day lives.
The growth decides what can be mulched and what needs more than one pass.

HOA and Master-Planned Community Rules for Property Owners Before You Clear

Property owners in Fort Bend's master-planned communities clear under two sets of rules: the county's and the HOA's. Cinco Ranch, Cross Creek Ranch, Harvest Green and Aliana each have architectural review boards that list protected trees and set clearing limits before a permit is pulled. Katy, Fulshear and Sugar Land have their own tree rules for new builds, usually a caliper-inch replacement schedule for anything over 8 inches you take down. Outside the cities and HOAs, no permit is needed for clearing brush on your own land unless you are in the FEMA mapped floodplain of the Brazos or Oyster Creek, where the Fort Bend County Drainage District reviews the development permit before dirt moves. Commercial development and property development along Highway 59 need a drainage plan from an engineer. Agricultural land clearing for a pasture or a pond needs none. Bring me your HOA's tree list before you call. It saves a week.
Land Clearing Service Area: Areas We Serve in Fort Bend County
Our equipment yard is in Hockley. Send the address and Janine will confirm the route.
Richmond, Rosenberg, Fulshear, Sugar Land, Needville, Missouri City and the south side of Katy, plus the open ground along FM 1093 and FM 359. Our yard is in Hockley, an hour down the Grand Parkway to Fulshear. The same crews work the north side of town, where land clearing in Montgomery County's pine sand runs off this same price sheet; across Montgomery County the per-acre numbers match this page, and only the machine and the mud change. Conroe and Magnolia, near Lake Conroe, are a two-hour haul from Fulshear. North Houston and the San Jacinto bottoms sit between the two. Our service area ends at seven county lines, and professional land clearing services are the same work on either side.

Send three photos and the address, or call (713) 587-6978. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow, usually within the hour on weekdays. Over two acres or inside an HOA with a tree list, I come out and walk the property with you; the on-site visit and the free quote cost nothing inside Greater Houston. Our crews are insured. Get an estimate before the clay closes for the winter. You will not get comprehensive land clearing solutions from me. You get a drum, a sketch and a number. Clay doesn't transform. It gets cleared and then it gets fill.

Fort Bend County Land Clearing Questions: Land Clearing Projects, Commercial Land Clearing and Cleanup
If your question is about wet ground, Janine will ask me.
How much does land clearing cost per acre in Fort Bend County?
$1,500 to $2,000 an acre for light brush, $2,500 to $3,500 for tallow and mesquite, $4,000 and up for timber with haul-off. Most residential jobs here are under an acre, so the day rate governs: $3,000 for the skid steer, $4,000 plus transport for the big mulcher. Fill is a separate bill.
Who do I call to clear a lot in Fulshear or Richmond?
A land clearing service with a mulching head, once the brush is over head high. Expert land clearing on a Fulshear lot is equipment and expertise together: the equipment to handle 8-inch tallow safely and efficiently, and a foreman who has read your HOA's tree list before the first cut.
Do I need a permit to clear my land in Fort Bend County?
Not for brush on your own land outside the FEMA floodplain and outside city limits. Inside Katy, Fulshear or Sugar Land, tree rules apply to new builds. Inside the mapped floodplain, the Fort Bend County Drainage District reviews a development permit before dirt moves, same as Harris County Engineering does next door.
Can you do selective clearing around my live oaks?
Yes. Selective clearing around an oak motte is a one-day job on the skid steer. The head runs at half drum speed inside the drip line so the teeth do not scar the bark, and the trees and branches we drop become the mat under the canopy. Mark the keepers with tape and the crew clears to the tape.
How long does site prep take, and how do I get a number?
One day of clearing for a half-acre, one more for site preparation if you want a rough pad and cleanup finished. Wet clay adds a day. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos and the address, and the number is back by tomorrow. Our experience and equipment are the same on every lot; the woodland tracts along the Brazos just take longer.
