Land Clearing in Hockley, TX: Lot, Brush & Forestry Mulching Services

My equipment yard is in Hockley, TX, off Highway 290 on the Waller County side, so this is the one page where I'm writing about my own road. Post oak, yaupon and pine-oak mix on sand, with tallow working up the ditches from the prairie. I've cleared it since 2018. Skid steer mulcher, $3,000 a day, transport included, and the transport is a short drive. A half acre of yaupon is one day. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos of your place. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.

THE WORK / FIELD SERVICES

Land Clearing Services in Hockley

Seven kinds of ground work. One number to start with.

Turner Land & Pine Land Clearing provides land clearing, lot clearing, brush removal, stump grinding and rough grading for residential and commercial properties in Hockley, TX and the surrounding area.

  • Fence line and property clearing: an 8-foot path along the wire, yaupon and post oak sprouts ground flush, cleanup done.
  • Full site clearing for a build: brush and vegetation to the dirt, pad roughed.
  • Selective clearing: keep the big post oaks, lose the yaupon under them.
  • Commercial clearing along 290 and the Grand Parkway at the same per-acre prices.
  • Tree removal with haul-off at $600 to $1,200 a load, and landscape clearing and land improvement on old pasture to make your property usable again.

A land clearing company serving its own town learns the dirt one gate at a time. Post oak sprouts come back from the root collar, so on a fence line we run the mulcher head an inch below grade and not flush, or you're paying for the same 2,400 feet again in three years. The skid steer eats anything under 8 inches; we call 811 and walk any pipeline easement before the machine moves, and we leave the site under two inches of mulch. Site work past rough grading is not us: no concrete, no septic, no house demolition. I know people who do it. Insured crews on every job.

Lot Clearing for New Homes in Hockley and Along Highway 290

Turner Land and Pine lot clearing for new homes in hockley & cypress in the Houston area

A half-acre lot in Hockley is one day; a wooded acre of post oak and pine is two. The county pulled 339 single-family permits in the 2025 Census Building Permits Survey and Harris County 16,940, and 77447 straddles the two. Most land clearing projects in the Hockley area run one to five acres, and residential land clearing here is as much about fence lines as pads. Field Sketch number five is a Hockley job: 2,400 feet of fence line, yaupon and post oak sprouts, an 8-foot path. We cleared it in one day with the skid steer for $3,000, which works out to about 300 feet an hour, and the sketch and the invoice are on the page. A professional land clearing service in Hockley also reads the FEMA map; on our jobs along the creek headwaters east of town, property owners sit in a mapped floodplain more often than they think, and in Harris County that means a development permit from Harris County Engineering before dirt moves. Sand drains, so a pad here is cheaper to build up than one on clay, and drainage is a swale, not a ditch. Stump grinding runs $150 to $400 per stump by diameter. We walk the property line together and I pace off the path width before the machine starts. The land clearing process starts with three photos and your plat.

Brush Clearing & Forestry Mulching Near Hockley

Turner Land and Pine brush clearing & forestry mulching near hockley in the Houston area

Forestry mulching is a land clearing method that uses specialized equipment to grind trees, brush and vegetation into mulch where they stand. Out here it is the cheapest way to clear land: no burn piles, no haul-off, and no TCEQ outdoor burning question, which matters because both counties post a burn ban most dry summers. The skid steer will remove brush under 8 inches at 1 to 3 acres a day. The big mulcher, 11 feet wide, does 4 to 8 and handles large acreage clearing on the old pasture toward Prairie View. My machines sleep in Hockley. The transport line on your invoice knows it. Yaupon is the work on the sand; it grows in areas with dense stems a hand apart and will overgrow a thinned lot in three summers unless a professional clearing service grinds the crowns an inch below grade. Tallow coming up the ditches gets the same cut, and the mulch shades the sprouts out. Overgrown land with yaupon under post oak runs $1,500 to $2,500 an acre, mulched in place; open pasture with scattered brush runs $1,000. By evening the low sun comes across your acreage to the fence you haven't seen since you bought it.

PRICING / LOCAL WORK

How Much Does Land Clearing Cost in Hockley?

Numbers first. The lot decides the final price.

Land clearing costs in Hockley, TX run $1,500 to $2,000 an acre for light brush, $2,500 to $3,500 for medium growth like yaupon, tallow thickets and small pine, and $4,000 and up for dense timber or a clear-cut with haul-off. By the day: skid steer mulcher $3,000 with transport, big mulcher $4,000 plus transport, and since the yard is in town the plus is small. Twenty stumps we grind by the day instead of per stump. Minimum trip charge is $1,200 to $1,500. The number depends on the size of your acreage, how thick the yaupon is, and the ground, depending on site conditions the week we come. Wet ground adds a day, though sand forgives a wet week better than clay. Excavation, ponds and site preparation past rough grading go to the dirt contractors I work with; site prep past the grade is theirs. The land clearing FAQs on our cost page answer the frequently asked questions about burn bans and permits. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos and the address. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.

THE MAP / HOUSTON AREA

Serving Hockley ZIP Code 77447 and Nearby Cypress, Waller, Tomball, Prairie View

Our equipment yard is in Hockley. Send the address and Janine will confirm the route.

Our crews run land clearing services across the Hockley ZIP code, 77447, on both sides of the Harris and Waller County line. Cypress is down 290, Waller and Prairie View are up it, Tomball is east on FM 2920, and Magnolia is north on FM 1774. Houston's building moved this way when the Grand Parkway crossed 290, and the Houston metro keeps coming. Our map runs south to west Houston, Katy, Fort Bend County, Fulshear and Brookshire, with the same services throughout. This is where Southeast Texas prairie climbs onto post oak sand, with East Texas pine starting a few miles north. Commercial land clearing services for commercial development along 290 carry the same prices and the same sketch; commercial sites inside Houston city limits carry the city tree ordinance, and out here it is the county and your HOA. A site visit out here costs me about a gallon of diesel, so it is free, and so is the on-site estimate across the Greater Houston area. Give Janine your gate location and she'll tell you which day the machine is near Hockley; some days it is already there.

FAQ / STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Plain answers.

If your question is about wet ground, Janine will ask me.

How much does it cost to clear land in Texas?

Light brush can start around $1,500–$2,000 per acre. Dense wooded tracts often run $4,000 or more per acre. Our skid steer mulcher rate is $3,000 per day with transport included. Photos help narrow the number.

How long does a half-acre take?

Often one machine-day for light brush and small trees. Wet ground, mature timber, old fencing, and narrow access can add time. I want to see the gate and the thickest part before I promise a day.

Do I need a permit to clear my lot?

It depends on the address and scope. Grading, floodplain work, drainage changes, wetlands, and local tree rules can trigger approvals. We check the jurisdiction before any regulated dirt work begins.

What happens to the brush?

Forestry mulching leaves chips on the ground. Full clearing can include piles or haul-off when the next use needs a different finish. Tell us whether you want mulch, a clean pad, or both.

Who answers the request?

Janine reads the web forms and handles the schedule. She usually responds within the hour during working hours. Hollis reviews the ground and takes responsibility for the scope and number.
