Montgomery County Forestry Mulching: Texas Land Clearing, Pine Understory and Site Prep Services

Montgomery County is pine on sand, and pine understory is the easiest clearing in Texas. Forestry mulching to clear land here runs 4 to 8 acres a day on the big machine, $4,000 a day plus transport, and the chips hold the sand through the first storms where bare ground would wash. I've cleared tracts from Magnolia to Splendora since 2018, keeping the loblolly and taking the yaupon. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos of your place. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.

Forestry Mulching to Clear Land Under the Pines: What We Mulch in Montgomery County

Montgomery County has its own mix of loblolly pine, yaupon, sweetgum, water oak. We walk the plan through access, soil, and drainage. If a mapped floodplain or waterway is involved, we check the required approvals before dirt moves.

Loblolly pine understory, yaupon, sweetgum and water oak, which is every shrub, bush and vine north of The Woodlands on sandy loam. The clearing is faster than tallow country because pine saplings and yaupon stems are soft and the sand carries the machine in any month. Texas land clearing and brush removal comes in several forms, including forestry mulching, and on a pine tract this is the one that keeps the trees you want. The drum teeth take a sweetgum up to 8 inches in a pass; over 8 inches the clearing goes to the dedicated high-horsepower mulcher. Selective clearing is the usual order from Conroe to Willis: undergrowth out, pines over a set diameter left standing. No mesquite and no acres of cedar up here, just East Texas pine with hardwood in the draws. Pine needles cost nothing. The yaupon underneath does. Tape the trees that stay.

Pasture and Acreage Brush Clearing Around Conroe, Magnolia and The Woodlands

Turner Land and Pine acreage & pasture mulching around conroe, magnolia, the woodlands in the

Most acreage calls here are for 3-5 acres along FM 1488 and FM 1314: a barndominium tract, a Magnolia horse pasture gone to yaupon, fence lines on a Montgomery farm. Land clearing might mean a dozer and a burn pile to you. On this sand it means a drum, because a dozer peels off the thin topsoil and leaves you a dune. The skid steer clears 1 to 3 acres a day at $3,000; the big machine clears 4 to 8. The Magnolia tract in my Field Sketches was three acres of selective clearing, keep the oaks, see the pond from the porch: two days, $8,400 with transport, and I sketched it from the dam. A rancher or landowner gets usable pasture back inside a week, and a land developer gets a corridor for the survey crew the same day. Timber folks call it vegetation management or forest management. In Texas it is clearing brush and leaving it on the ground.

Texas Land Clearing on Residential Lots and Wooded Backyards

Turner Land and Pine residential mulching in the Houston area

A one-acre wooded lot in Conroe is two days if you want the pines kept and a pad roughed: the one in my sketches had 14 pines left standing and ran $6,800. A half-acre of yaupon alone is one day, $3,000. That is the most common clearing we do in this county, for a property owner clearing behind a new house in Willis or a business owner who needs a pad on Highway 105 completely cleared. The skid steer fits a 10-foot gate. We clear brush to the line, including brush under the drip line of the kept pines, and leave a chip layer two to four inches thick. Land clearing services inside Conroe city limits come with a no-burn rule; outside, TCEQ compliance and the county burn ban still make a dozer crew that would create burn piles a bad bet. On our jobs in Conroe the owner usually walks the lot that evening with the pines throwing long shadows across clean chips.

PRICING / LOCAL WORK

What Mulching and Clearing Cost in Montgomery County, TX

Numbers first. The lot decides the final price.

$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or by the day: $3,000 for the skid steer with transport included, $4,000 plus transport for the big machine. Dense yaupon thickets under a closed pine canopy add a day. Wet ground is rare on sand, but the Lake Creek and San Jacinto bottoms add one in spring. Minimum trip is $1,200 to $1,500. Texas land clearing with a dozer and haul-off starts at $4,000 an acre and adds $600 to $1,200 a load, so brush clearing by mulching wins on most pine tracts unless the timber is worth selling first. Stumps are a separate line, $150 to $400 each by diameter; excavation services and site preparation for a pad are separate too, and I do not pour concrete or install septic. Professional forestry mulching services should hand you a sketch and an invoice, and ours are on the page when we finish. The on-site estimate is free inside Greater Houston. Call (713) 587-6978 with the acreage and the tree size and I will give you days and dollars for the clearing.

Stumps, Pine Sprouts and Mowing After Clearing on Sandy Loam

Turner Land and Pine what to do after mulching on sandy loam over clay in the Houston area

Leave the chips down for a year. On sandy loam the layer is a natural erosion barrier; without it the first Texas thunderstorm cuts gullies to the clay underneath, and I have seen a bare pine lot lose 4 inches of sand in one June. People call that eco-friendly. I call it keeping your dirt. Mow the sweetgum and yaupon sprouts when they reach knee high, twice the first summer, because yaupon will overgrow a cleared lot in three seasons if nobody cuts it. Stump removal is separate from clearing: we grind to the dirt, but a pine crown over 8 inches stays under the chips, and stump grinding runs $150 to $400 each before a slab. For site prep, the builder rakes the chips off the pad footprint and crowns the sand. I do not talk about environmental sustainability. I talk about sand that stays on your lot after the land clearing is done.

Our Service Area: Where We Work in Montgomery County

Our equipment yard is in Hockley. Send the address and Janine will confirm the route.

Conroe, Magnolia, The Woodlands, Willis, Montgomery, New Caney and Splendora, plus every county road between FM 1488 and Highway 105. Our yard is in Hockley, 40 minutes up FM 1488 to the county line, and the terrain is flat sand all the way, so transport is the only thing distance changes on a service call. Texas has 254 counties and we clear in seven of them around Houston; this is the one with the most pine and the fewest wet days. Land clearing in Montgomery County means pine understory; tree removal of a single 30-inch loblolly near a house is a different trade, and I know people who do it. Land development crews along I-45 and Highway 242 book us by the week. Tell Janine which exit you are off.

FAQ / STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Montgomery County Questions on Stump Grinding, Excavation Services and Mulching

If your question is about wet ground, Janine will ask me.

How much does clearing cost per acre in Montgomery County?

$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or $3,000 a day for the skid steer with transport included and $4,000 plus transport for the big machine. Three acres of selective clearing in Magnolia ran $8,400 with transport over two days. Most Texas pine tracts under 10 acres land between $6,000 and $17,000 cleared.

Will grass grow after clearing with a mulching head?

Yes, through the pine chips, usually by the second month in spring. The layer holds moisture in the sand and shades out the first yaupon sprouts. Pine chips run a little acid, so if you want bahia or bermuda instead of native grass, lime the lot the first fall and seed into the chips.

Does mulching remove stumps?

No. The head cuts trees and brush to the dirt and leaves the root crown under the chips. Pine crowns under 6 inches rot in two seasons on sand; anything bigger you leave, mow around, or have ground out at $150 to $400 each before a slab. I tell you which before the clearing starts.

Is mulching better than traditional land clearing with a dozer?

On a Montgomery County pine tract, yes, unless the timber is worth selling. Forestry mulchers leave the topsoil and the layer; a dozer scrapes the thin sand topsoil into a pile you then pay to burn or haul. Dozer clearing wins only for a same-day pad grade or Texas timber over 12 inches that a buyer will not take.

How do I get a number for clearing my tract?

Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos and the address. Janine answers every form and call and has a number back by tomorrow. Last spring on a lot off FM 2854 we cleared an acre of pine understory in a day for an owner who sent photos on Sunday night. Big Texas tracts get a walk first; a lot gets a number first.
