Brazoria County Forestry Mulching: Texas Land Clearing, Tallow Underbrush and Site Prep Services
Brazoria County is a tallow thicket on wet clay, and forestry mulching to clear land is the one tool that handles both the tree and the mud. The skid steer with a mulching head runs $3,000 a day with transport and takes a half-acre of tallow down to chips in one day, floating on ground that would swallow a dozer. I've cleared tallow from Manvel to Danbury this way since 2018. Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos of your place. Janine will have a number back to you by tomorrow.
COUNTY FIELD GUIDE
Tallow, Huisache and Mesquite: Forestry Mulching to Clear Land in Brazoria County
Brazoria County has its own mix of chinese tallow, coastal prairie, wetland grasses, willow. We walk the plan through access, soil, and drainage. If a mapped floodplain or waterway is involved, we check the required approvals before dirt moves.
Chinese tallow, willow and wax myrtle in the wet spots, coastal prairie grass gone to brush, and every shrub, bush and vine that moves onto a lot once the mowing stops. Live oak mottes stand on the old ridges and those we work around. Texas land clearing and brush removal comes in several forms, including forestry mulching, and on coastal clay it is the one that does not leave ruts. The drum teeth take a tallow trunk up to 8 inches in a pass because tallow is soft, wet wood; willow is softer still and clears faster than anything in the county. Over 8 inches the clearing goes to the big machine, same as anywhere in Texas. Selective clearing is the usual order around an oak motte: undergrowth out, the oaks left standing. No East Texas pine down here, no acres of cedar like the Hill Country, and mesquite only starts west of the Brazos toward Needville. In Brazoria County the brush comes in two kinds: tallow, and tallow with water under it.
The growth decides what can be mulched and what needs more than one pass.

heavy clay, wetlands; USACE wetland delineation can apply. A clean lot is no use if water gets trapped against the next building pad. Tell us if the ground stays wet after a rain.
Acreage and Pasture Brush Clearing Around Alvin, Pearland and Angleton

Most acreage calls here are for 3-5 acres off FM 1462, County Road 48 and Highway 35: a Rosharon horse pasture gone to tallow, fence lines on a Danbury farm, a Manvel tract a land developer wants walked for clearing. Land clearing might mean a dozer to you. On this clay in Texas it means a drum, because the water table sits two feet down most of the winter and the skid steer on wide tracks floats where a dozer sinks to the belly pan. The skid steer clears 1 to 3 acres a day at $3,000; the dedicated high-horsepower mulcher clears 4 to 8 at $4,000 plus transport. A rancher or landowner gets usable pasture back the same week, and the land development crew gets a corridor cut for the survey without a haul-off bill. On our jobs in Rosharon we have taken a 4-acre tallow pasture to chips in two days with the water standing in the ditch beside us, and I sketched it before and after. Timber folks call this vegetation management. I call it clearing brush and leaving it where it fell.
Texas Land Clearing on Residential Lots and Subdivision Backyards

A half-acre lot in Alvin, Manvel or Iowa Colony is one day and one machine, $3,000. That is the most common land clearing we do in this county, for a property owner who bought the overgrown lot next door or a business owner who needs a pad on Highway 288 completely cleared before the surveyor sets pins. Manvel and Iowa Colony each pulled about 745 single-family permits in 2025 by the Census Building Permits Survey, so there is a lot of this. The skid steer fits a 10-foot gate. We clear brush to the line, including brush along the drainage ditch, and leave a chip layer two to four inches thick that the builder's fill goes on top of. Land clearing services inside Pearland come with city tree rules for new builds and a no-burn rule; outside, TCEQ compliance and the county burn ban still make a dozer crew that would create burn piles a bad bet. After Harvey we cleared storm brush off lots like these in Pearland with nothing but the skid steer. Send photos of the gate as well as the brush.
Mulching and Clearing Cost in Brazoria County, TX
Numbers first. The lot decides the final price.
$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or by the day: $3,000 for the skid steer with transport included, $4,000 plus transport for the big machine. Dense tallow thickets add a day. Wet clay adds a day, and in Brazoria that is most of the winter. Minimum trip is $1,200 to $1,500, and this is our longest haul, an hour and a half from the Hockley yard. Texas land clearing with a dozer and haul-off starts at $4,000 an acre and adds $600 to $1,200 a load, which is why brush clearing by mulching wins on nine of ten lots here. Stumps are a separate line, $150 to $400 each by diameter; excavation services and site preparation for a pad are separate too, and anything inside a USACE wetland line is a Corps permit before I dig, so I usually do not. I do not pour concrete or install septic. Professional forestry mulching services should hand you a sketch and an invoice, and ours are on the page when we finish. The on-site estimate is free inside Greater Houston. Call (713) 587-6978 with the address and I will check the wetland inventory before I give you days and dollars for the clearing.

Stumps, Tallow Sprouts and Mowing After Clearing on Heavy Clay and Wetlands

Leave the chips down until the builder grades or the grass is through. On heavy clay the layer is a natural erosion barrier; a bare lot here sheds its top inch into the roadside ditch with the first Gulf downpour, and the drainage district notices. People call the chips eco-friendly. I call them the cheapest fill in Texas. Mow the tallow sprouts when they reach knee high, twice the first summer, because tallow roots run 3 feet into the clay and will overgrow a lot in two seasons. Stump removal is separate from clearing: we grind to the dirt, but a crown over 8 inches stays under the chips, and stump grinding runs $150 to $400 each before a slab. For site prep, the builder rakes the chips off the pad footprint and brings select fill so the slab sits above base flood elevation. Where the survey shows wetland flags, nothing gets dug without the Corps. I do not talk about environmental sustainability. I talk about clay that stays on your lot after the land clearing is done.
Our Service Area: Where We Mulch Across Brazoria County
Our equipment yard is in Hockley. Send the address and Janine will confirm the route.
Alvin, Pearland, Angleton, Lake Jackson, Rosharon, Manvel and Danbury, plus Iowa Colony and the open ground along FM 1462 and Highway 35. The yard is in Hockley, so this is our longest service call, down the Grand Parkway and Highway 288, and the terrain is flat clay all the way, so transport is the only thing distance changes. Texas has 254 counties and we clear in seven of them around Houston; this is the one with the most tallow per acre and the most wetland flags per survey. Land clearing in Brazoria County means tallow; tree removal of a single big live oak beside a house is a different trade, and I know people who do it. Tell Janine which side of Highway 288 the clearing is on.

Brazoria County Questions: Stump Grinding, Excavation Services and Mulching
If your question is about wet ground, Janine will ask me.
How much does clearing cost per acre in Brazoria County?
$1,000 to $2,500 an acre by density, or $3,000 a day for the skid steer with transport included. A half-acre of tallow is one day. Most Brazoria land clearing jobs are under two acres and sit on wet clay, so the day rate governs, and the number I give you by tomorrow is the number on the invoice.
Will grass grow after clearing with a mulching head?
Yes, through the chips, usually by the second month in a wet Texas spring. On coastal clay the layer keeps the surface from crusting and shades out the first tallow sprouts. Do not rake it off; rake it and the next downpour takes the top inch of clay into the ditch and the drainage district sends a letter.
Does mulching remove stumps?
No. The head cuts trees and brush to the dirt and leaves the root crown under the chips. Tallow crowns under 4 inches rot in a season; bigger ones resprout unless we cut them 6 inches below grade, at $150 to $400 each. I tell you which before the clearing starts.
Is mulching better than traditional land clearing with a dozer?
On a Brazoria County lot, yes, nine times in ten. Forestry mulchers leave the topsoil and the layer; a dozer scrapes both into a pile you then pay to burn or haul, and on wet clay it leaves ruts the fill truck falls into. Dozer clearing wins only for a same-day pad grade or Texas timber over 12 inches.
How do I get a number for clearing my lot?
Call (713) 587-6978 or send three photos and the address. Janine answers every form and call and has a number back by tomorrow. Last spring on a lot off County Road 48 near Rosharon the owner sent photos at breakfast and we cleared it that Friday. Forest management on a big Texas tract gets a walk first; a lot gets a number first.
